Student Support

With the increased number of assessments, the end of term can become a stressful time for many. Below are some stress management and self-care tips that may help you, or someone you know, cope with this potentially tricky time:

Stress Management

Self-care

Create a study timetable

Use a daily “to-do” and prioritise tasks based on due dates/ assessment dates

Have a “brain-break” after every 40 - 60 minutes of solid working

Turn phone off or on silent during study time and leave it in another room

Study in a well-lit, quiet room

Drink at least 2 litres of water a day

Eat 3 healthy meals a day

Have at least 30 minutes of exercise a day

Reflect on your thoughts and feelings using a personal journal

Practice mindfulness

Have a regular sleep routine (consistent ‘wind-down’ activity, sleep and wake up time)

Engage in regular social activity

If you’d like to discuss any of the above tips, or any related matter, please don’t hesitate to speak to a Student Support team member. We can be found in the portable office (near the Year 7 & 8 Co-ordinator).

SRC

This term the student representative council focused on developing their mission for the year and organising events to celebrate International Women’s Day and Diversity Week. I saw a strong demonstration of leadership skills in the development of these whole school events. SRC students attended meetings, stayed back after school, and delegated roles and responsibilities to ensure the success of these events. To celebrate International Women’s Day, the SRC organised a Kahoot quiz about strong female leaders and influential women and organised a mural for students to post a message of what International Women’s Day means to them.

Diversity week and Harmony day was a great success! SRC students stayed back after school to decorate the campus in orange and organised cultural music from all around the world to play as the bell. Diversity week kicked off with a multicultural food stall where students sold their cultural food. Great discussions were had about the origin of the food and the diversity of the different flavours. Harmony day was celebrated with a cultural talent show, and it was amazing to see all the effort put in by our students! Songs from all around the world were sung, and beautiful cultural dances were displayed. Diversity week was wrapped up with cultural dress day and an assembly to parade the cultural dress and a speech of what diversity meant to a SRC student. The assembly reminded me of the great diversity of our school and the beauty in unity. All proceeds collected by the SRC will be donated to the families of victims of the Christchurch attack.

I would like to say a massive thank you to our SRC for their ongoing hard work planning and organising these successful events for our school community. I look forward to continuing working with the SRC to help amplify the student voice.
